RECOMMENDED BOOK: Alternative Treatments for Fibromyalgia and Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

This is an excellent book, very easy to read and very easy to resource quickly and jump to a section and read a bit about a topic. Really covers everything you would need to tackle, and in a very easy to read and easy to understand way. I recommend having it a resource in your personal library.

Gluten-Free Pizza Anyone?!

I have read a lot about a gluten intolerance/sensitivity and fibromyalgia, and now even a gluten connection in migraines. I've bee tested for celiac's disease, and the test came back negative, but sometimes I still wonder if I just have more of a sensitivity. However, everytime I look at how to go about eating gluten free I get overwhelmed! It seems like a full-time job just figuring it all out!

I guess the biggest deterrent for me is I tend to eat out a lot, so that's the part I really need to conquer.

Pizza is, unfortunately, one of my favorite foods :) And when searching for gluten-free restaurant info I came across this local pizza place, it must be a sign!

Has anyone tried the gluten free at this Fort Lauderdale pizza place?

Yoga for Fibro

I know, I am like a broken record in my "I love yoga for my fibro" but I found this essay and I had to share, as I can't say it any better than she does! Thank you Valerie for putting this so nicely, how yoga helps fibro:

Start Preparing!

"The future depends on what we do in the present." - Mahatma Gandhi

When I was first diagnosed with fibro I was angry, I was going through the "why me." I was also really upset because when the symptoms first started showing up I was actually at the healthiest I've ever been in my life! I had been eating very healthy, had lost weight and was exercising a good deal. After a while of trying to understand the fibro, I started to realize that being at my healthiest when fibro hit actually helped give me more strength to take in on and be better prepared. I affirmed to get back into my healthy mode, because whether or not I had fibro I was going to at least try and be as healthy as I can again. Going back down the healthy path of living has helped me so much in feeling better and dealing with the fibro, and it wasn't such a difficult thing to start doing again, since I had done it once before. I of course just modify my eating and exercising to align with fibro constraints.

I also recently learned that a friend has been diagnosed with cancer and dealing with the chemo and treatments. She is now, thankfully, in remission. But she too has a blog, to share her updates with family and friends. And amazingly I read the same realization in her blog. That she was a healthy person, eating right and exercising and really taking care of herself, when the cancer struck. And she wondered why, and then realized that living the healthy life had prepared her for taking on cancer and beating it.

So our message is to everyone, fibro or not, cancer or not, that living a healthy lifestyle helps you to prepare for whatever may come down your path. So tell everyone you know to Start Preparing!

EXCELLENT Book on Natural Medicines!

I received this book from my sister-in-law and family for Christmas and I have to say I LOVE LOVE LOVE it!

The Most Effective Natural Cures on Earth: The Surprising Unbiased About What Treatments Work and Why, by Jonny Bowden

The title of the book says it all - it is honest and straight forward about using natural healing for the body, which is built to be extremely resilient. The introduction in the book is especially important to read.

I really like that it confirms my feelings that using alternative and all natural treatments does not have to be expensive, it eliminates horrible side effects (and in fact helps the body become more healthy all around) and that simple changes in lifestyle and diet can have HUGE impacts. Natural cures, while they do take time to work, they treat the whole body and no matter what you suffer from, or don't suffer from, you can always learn something about making a healthier you.

It does touch on fibromyalgia here and there, and in fact confirms some things I have already read and researched, so that too made me feel good about the direction I am heading. (Ribose, Vitamin D, Fish Oil, Vitamin B, Sam-e, Magnesium, Reflexology)

But I am really enjoying the new things I am learning about, like all the benefits of apple cider vinegar (which for me can help with my acid reflux, but in addition has a lot of vitamins and minerals to also help my overall health at the same time!) and the benefits of Selenium, Cinnamon, and even Cranberry Juice.

Has anyone else come across this book?!

e-rewards.com - Join Today!

https://www.e-rewards.com

This is a cool site. I've been a member for almost 3 years now, its free to join, and at various times they send you surveys on a variety of things and you provide feedback and then get credit, and then can redeem credit for "rewards" like magazine subscriptions, discounts at various stores and what not.

I noticed they now have a subscription to a magazine called "Whole Living", once my rewards reach that level I'm going to cash in and try that magazine out. For free! Super cool.

Here is a description of the magazine, sounds interesting:

Whole Living
Great tips to enrich your life, stay young and vibrant, and improve your health. Stay younger, look better, be stronger -- naturally! Great ideas for natural eating, inner growth, and a healthy home. (Formerly body+soul magazine. From Martha Stewart.)

Tunies Super Save Nutrition Store

http://www.tunies.com/

I heard about this local nutrition store via word of mouth and wanted to check it out for myself, as I had heard it was comparable to Whole Foods but had much, much more reasonable prices. TO NOTE: After visiting their website I also noticed that you can place orders online for shipments throughout the U.S. and international.

I wandered through the aisles this evening and am highly impressed, the carry all the products and supplements that I order online and seek out at various stores, and at prices cheaper than I am currently paying! From my Ultra-Mag magnesium, to my Neem Gentle Shampoo and Neem Toothpaste. I had my eye on the peacekeeper nail polish and some organic lip gloss, for my next visit :)

Super friendly employees and very helpful. They carry not just a wide variety of supplements and vitamins but they have a good selection of foods, snacks, even sulfate free wines, and again all at very reasonable pricing.

Since I have developed so many chemical sensitivities I am super happy to have found this place which offers a huge variety of chemical-free and organic products for me to try.

I love it, it has opened my horizons even more! And I love that its a one-stop shop for me on so many things! Check them out!!

L-Lysine for Canker Sores - Follow Up

As promised in my December 5th post (http://adayinthelifeoffibro.blogspot.com/2010/12/l-lysine-for-canker-sores.html) I am following up with my continued successful results with L-Lysine!

I have not had any mouth sores or canker sores since Thanksgiving, and after having suffered a continuous onslaught of canker and mouth sores for over a year, to me this is such relief, and a miracle! I even indulged in some trigger foods over Christmas, but was able to double up on the Lysine in anticipation and never developed the sores like I did before.

I also think that adding the Lysine and Vitamin C has been just an overall good boost to my immune system, as some really nasty sickness has been going around at work and I am one of the few in my department who remain unscathed by this horrible flu-like illness.

My next true test will be when I visit the dentist in February, I plan on doubling up on the Lysine a few days before to see if it helps the burning mouth syndrome from coming on full force after the dentist knocks around in my mouth. Keeping my fingers crossed!
