Fibromyalgia and Thyroid

Whoa.

I don't know how I haven't stumbled across this in the past 5 or so years. But it makes sense. As it all seems to come together. A link between fibromyalgia and the thyroid. I've read a little about it (a few links below) but my brain fog leaves me a little fuzzy on the exactness, but it seems the most together puzzle of anything I've come across since my diagnosis with fibro 5 years ago.

Compare the symptoms, the similarities are uncanny, ok really, they are the SAME!!

• fatigue
• weight gain
• cold intolerance
• joint and muscle pain
• depression
• memory problems

Is fibro the early stage of thyroid problems? (Subclinical Hashimoto's, before the thyroid levels get to the point of imbalance that they show up on a blood test?) Or is thyroid just another part of the fibro puzzle?

What exactly is the connection between fibro and thyroid and the key to feeling better?

Fibro Comes in Cycles?

Lately I seem to have discovered a trend. It seems no matter what I do, eating healthy, exercising as I can, taking supplements, getting plenty of sleep, avoiding stress, I still have bouts and episodes with fibro that seems to get worse. It seems cyclic - seems to come and go in cycles, so I guess I have to not despair and just keep plodding through with my best practices. Has anyone else noticed this trend in their fibro/cfs?

Back Pain and FIbromyalgia?

Oh goodness. My lower back has been hurting now for 5 days. I am scared I am going to have to say hello to a new-to-me fibro symptom. Does anyone else have experience with this type fibro symptom/pain?

I found this article which doesn't make it sound very promising :( In fact when they talk about what causes it, sounds scary! I have tried massage and exercises. I will try heat therapy tonight too, see if that helps.

A Good Resource

If you haven't already, check out http://www.patientslikeme.com/. It's is an EXCELLENT place to track your symptoms and treatments, and then be able to print it all out to share with your doctors! (Yay fibrofog won't thwart us there!) AND there are some good fibro forums too! There is a good ongoing post detailing the Foods FIbros should avoid. Super interesting. I would link to it, but you have to login to access it.
