Dr. St. Amand and The Guaifenesin Protocol

Has anyone tried Dr. St. Amand's Guaifenesin Protocol for fibromyalgia? Featured here:

One of the biggest deterrents for people is the avoidance of Salicylates, which is in quite a lot of foods, supplements, beauty products etc.! Salicylates are also found in  many organic, all-natural products - all plants produce it as a protective agent against soil bacteria. Without salicylates plants would never get out of the ground alive. Thus "all-natural" products actually contain more salicylates since they have not been processed out.

I've been flipping throu Dr. St. Amand's book, "What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Fibromyalgia" detailing things like this.

Curious if anyone has tried and their thoughts on it.

  1. As a matter of fact, in 2004-05 I was on the Guaifenesin Protocol. My doctor lent me the book; I then bought my own copy and followed the protocol to the letter. Buying cosmetics, lotion's and such made me more knowledgeable about ingredients; I even took a magnifying glass along to Wal-Mart so I could read the fine print on the packages!

    When I began the protocol I stopped taking the antidepressants that I used for sleep and began using Benadryl 50mg. Actually, I used Wal-Mart’s Equate version as they are less expensive.

    While on the Guaifenesin I kept a daily calendar of how I felt. At the end of 19 months;
    I had taken the highest dosage possible and the last month read as the first. I had no improvements other than I was having more normal sleep with the Equate allergy medication. While on antidepressants, I didn’t fall asleep, I was rendered unconscious and then was dopey until 11:00a.m.

    While on the Guaifenesin, I felt as though the pain was worse at certain times.

    I still use the Equate and take Shark Cartilage to reduce muscle pain. Another Fibromyalgic suggested this and I have found it beneficial at bedtime and during the day if needed.

    I hope you hear from someone who has had better results.
