Elderberry may help boost immunity by increasing the body's production of cytokines (proteins involved in regulating the immune system's response to disease and infection), according to a 2001 study on the elderberry extract Sambucol. The study's authors suggest that Sambucol may deliver an immune-enhancing effect when administered to people with cancer or AIDS, but this theory still needs to be tested in clinical trials.
Has anyone every tried Elderberry? Tea?
I have never taken elderberry or drank the tea. I might try the tea since I enjoy a good cup every so often.
ReplyDeleteI have fond memories of visiting my grandmother in Ohio when I was a little girl. She would spot elderberry growing along the road and we would stop and pick it, and take it back to her house where she would lay it all out to dry so she could make tea :) She was an incredible woman, way ahead of her time in many things. Looking back my Mom and I wonder if she too suffered from fibro.
